Laser-induced damage in dielectrics with nanosecond to subpicosecond pulses.

چکیده
Our extensive measurements of damage thresholds for fused silica and several fluorides (LiF, CaF, MgF and BaF) at 1053 and 526 nm for pulse durations, 2, ranging from 275 fs to 1 ns are reported elsewhere at this meeting. A theoretical model based on electron production via multiphoton ionization, Joule heating, and collisional (avalanche) ionization is in good agreement with experimental results.

Laser-induced damage in composites of scandium, hafnium, aluminum oxides with silicon oxide in the infrared.
The laser-induced damage of mixtures of Sc2O3, HfO2, Al2O3 with SiO2 has been characterized in the infrared for both nanosecond and subpicosecond pulses. Laser-induced damage thresholds (LIDTs) are reported and discussed versus band gap for different compositions. The distributions versus fluence of nanosecond damage precursor densities are extracted fitting damage probability curves. Two model...
متن کاملDroplet deformation and fragmentation by ultra - short laser pulses
We report on the experimental studies of the deformation and fragmentation of liquid metal droplets by picosecond and subpicosecond laser pulses. The experiments were performed with laser irradiance varying in 10-10 W/cm range. The observed evolution of the droplet shape upon the impact dramatically differs from the previously reported for nanosecond laser pulses. Instead of flattening the drop...
متن کاملOptical ablation by high-power short-pulse lasers
Laser-induced damage threshold measurements were performed on homogeneous and multilayer dielectrics and gold-coated optics at 1053 and 526 nm for pulse durations t ranging from 140 fs to 1 ns. Gold coatings were found, both experimentally and theoretically, to be limited to 0.6 Jycm2 in the subpicosecond range for 1053-nm pulses. In dielectrics, we find qualitative differences in the morpholog...
متن کاملThe energy coupling efficiency of multi-wavelength laser pulses to damage initiating defects in DKDP nonlinear crystals
The bulk damage performance of potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystals under simultaneous exposure to 1064-, 532-, and 355-nm nanosecond-laser pulses is investigated in order to probe the laser-induced defect reactions leading to damage initiation during frequency conversion. The results provide insight into the mechanisms governing the behavior of the damage initiating defects under exposure t...
متن کاملInvestigations of femtosecond-nanosecond dual-beam laser ablation of dielectrics.
We have conducted experimental investigations for the micromachining of dielectrics (fused silica) using an integrated femtosecond (fs) and nanosecond (ns) dual-beam laser system at different time delays between the fs and ns pulses. We found that the maximum ablation enhancement occurs when the fs pulse is shot near the peak of the ns pulse envelope. Enhancements up to 13.4 times in ablation d...
